FREER - Four Vietnam Veterans were honored for the valor and service to their country Tuesday, Sept. 25.

The veterans, who reside in Freer, were Roel Canales Sr., Joe Aguillion, Gilbert Hernandez Sr. and Ruben Casas.

They were treated to a dinner. Pamela Garza was the host for the evening and thank the veterans for their service.

Veterans were given a 50th anniversary pin from the United States Pentagon, and anniversary shirts from the Corpus Christi Veterans Band and H-E-B.

The Vietnam War started in 1959 with communist North Vietnam and the Viet Cong against South Vietnam and the United States. The war ended when U.S. forces withdrew in 1973 and Vietnam unified under Communist control two years later, according to history.org.
