A known criminal was arrested for a burglary of a habitation Wednesday.

Jesus Cardenas was involved in a break-in at a home on the 300 block of Broadway, according to Investigator JC Charles with the Alice Police Department.

On Tuesday night, the homeowner drove up to his residence and saw an unknown vehicle in his driveway. According to the victim, Cardenas walked out of the dark and told the homeowner he was looking for a friend.

The homeowner believed Cardenas' story and reversed out of his driveway to let Cardenas leave the property, but not before he wrote down the license plate, Charles said.

Once the homeowner got inside his residence, he noticed that his home had been burglarized. The flat screen television had been broken and several smaller items were missing.

An investigation began. After a photo lineup with the homeowner, Cardenas was picked up at his home on the 800 block of Loma Street.

Cardenas is suspected of burglarizing two local businesses and was arrested approximately three weeks ago for another burglary.

He was transported to the Jim Wells County jail.
