Fronton, Texas – The Rio Grande Valley Sector’s Border Patrol Search Trauma and Rescue (BORSTAR) unit extracted a vehicle intentionally driven into the Rio Grande by a smuggler.
On Monday, agents working near Fronton, Texas, responded to a report of a vehicle involved in a narcotic smuggling attempt. Agents located the vehicle and the driver immediately returned to the Rio Grande and drove the SUV into the river.
Today, BORSTAR operators organized a recovery effort to extract the SUV from the river. Operators found the submerged vehicle and successfully retrieved it. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Rio Grande City station’s riverine unit also assisted in the effort.
