Roberto Almaraz passed away on July 31 with only his widow by his side. When the funeral arrangements were being planned there was no family to carry his casket to his final resting place.
Seventy-four-year-old Almaraz and his widow Olga Almaraz were the only two in their family. They had no children or living relatives that could step in.
Roberto had been in hospice care with Mi Casa Hospice before his death. Mi Casa employees quickly began to make calls to community members for assistance.
Answering the pallbearer call were the men from the Veterans of Foreign War Post #8621.
The day of Roberto's funeral the VFW men each took their place around Roberto and carried him. They carried a man they did not know to give him the proper funeral he deserved.
