Effective September 1, some employees at Alice Independent School District will an increase in the pay.

At Monday evening workshop meeting, the school board unanimously voted to give food service, auxiliary, clerical paraprofessionals and administrative professionals a raise in their salary.

According to the district's Director of Finance David Flores, the food service employees will receive a minimum raise of $0.70 per hour and the auxiliary, clerical paraprofessionals and administrative professionals will received a minimum raise of $0.50 per hour.

The increase in pay is to help with the district's high turnover of employees, and to attract and retain talented employees.

Flores along with Superintendent Dr. Carl Scarbrough have gone over the proposed 2018-2019 school budget and were able to find funds to support the raise.

On June 18th, the school board approved an increase to the employer insurance contribution and on July 9th the board also approved the increase to teacher pay scales.
