The team is made up of Kyleigh Carr, Sabestian Chapa, Ryan Lopez and CJ Rodriguez. They competed against teams from other Gulf Coast and neighboring states.

The team was invited after they placed second in the Texas 4-H Round-Up. The team met Paula Dean and will make Perfect Corn Salsa with Grilled Shrimp.

Now, the team will compete at the National Food Challenge at the State Fair of Texas.

These kids can cook and know their nutrition, said Jim Wells County Extension Agent Barbie Wymore. They also had to present a five minute presentation on preparation, food safety, health option, Texas Commodities, and cost and servings per dish on the Public Address system.
