A meet and greet with Alice Independent School District's newest superintendent was held on Monday. The purpose of the meet and greet was to give the public the opportunity to visit with Dr. Carl Scarbrough.
Dr. Scarbrough took the position in June after Dr. Alma Charles resigned after only five months on the job.
During the meet and greet, Dr. Scarbrough spoke to differenct community members about what he anticipates for the school district. He got the chance to visit with guests on a one-on-one bases to address any concerns they may have had.
Dr. Scarbrough was the assistant superintendent in San Antonio ISD since 2016 and has been in the education field for 30 years. During his career, Dr. Scarbrough has led key innovative instructional initiatives at the district level, and his campuses received recognized, exemplary Title 1 Distinction, and National Blue Ribbon awards.
His previous roles include assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction at Seguin ISD; principal and curriculum director at Southside ISD; and high school teacher, coach, instructional coordinator, vice-principal, and principal in Harlandale ISD.
Dr. Scarbrough is a graduate of Madison High School in San Antonio, and received his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Texas at San Antonio, Masters of Science Degree from Texas A&I University, Educational Doctorate from the University of Texas at Tyler.
Dr. Scarbrough is married to Kathleen who will be employed at Hillcrest Elementary. Together they have three sons, Daniel, 36, Spenser, 29, and Steven, 6.
The meet and greet also gave new employees the chance to introduce themselves to Dr. Scarbrough and the community.
