SAN DIEGO - A house fire left a family with nothing but ashes on Saturday afternoon.

According to San Diego Fire Chief Juan Soliz, the family was preparing for a birthday party as one of the ladies was doing laundry.

Soliz was told that a loud pop was heard before the saw the flames.

Soliz and his firefighters combatted the house fire, but due to the high temperatures Soliz called for mutual aid. Firefighters from Ben Bolt, Benavides, Alice and Falfurrias assisted in the fire.

Firefighters had to break a window and cut a hole in the attic to get to the fire.

The family and their friends watched as firefighters worked to extinguish the fire. The family had no insurance on the home that they had been remodeling slowly.

Friends and family are asking for any donations from clothes to appliances and furniture.
