Prudencio Rodriguez III is accused of stabbing his 19-year-old nephew Monday while he slept at an apartment on the 100 block of Olmito Street, according to police.
Police were called Monday to the hospital in reference to a man with several stab wounds. The victim had stab wounds and slashes to his face and body.
Witnesses told police that a tall bald man later identified as 37-year-old Rodriguez walked into the victims' bedroom and began to punch him. It wasn't until they saw the blood that witnesses determined the victim had been stabbed.
Rodriguez left the apartment, but not before threatening the witnesses not to call the police.
According to police, until four months ago Rodriguez had been in prison for approximately 20 years on a assault with a deadly weapon charge.
At the hospital the victim told police that his uncle had been threatening him and his family over the last few days.
Warrants were issued for Rodriguez's arrest. Police searched for Rodriguez at a home on Guerra Street, but he was not found.
Rodriguez turned himself in to police at the Jim Wells County jail Tuesday. He was charged with burglary of a habitation with intent to commit felony and two counts of terroristic threats against family members.
He was released from jail Tuesday on a total bond of $9,000.
