Investigators need the public's help acquiring information about a firearm and money that was stolen from a home on May 31.

According to Jim Wells County Sgt. Gilbert Saenz, an unknown suspect entered the residence in the Ranch Alegre area and stole a rifle described as a CZ brand Scorpion EVO3 S1 short barrel rifle (SBR) 9mm with custom tan and black with a red extended magazine release along with $425.

The firearm, valued at $2,300, was legally owned and secured in the owner's bedroom. The money was in a security box under lock and key.

The cash was part of proceeds used for a scholarship for Alice ISD students in memory of the owner's late son.

A partial fingerprint was located on the security box key and was sent to the crime lab, Saenz said.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives has been notified.

Anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers of South Texas at 361-664-STOP. Tipsters can remain anonymous and can earn up to $1,000.
