Salutatorian Aryssa Cruz

She is the daughter of Priscilla and Joe Cruz. She has two younger sisters, Mya and Cyanna.

Future plans, college, major

Aryssa plans to major in Psychology BS and earn a Bachelor’s degree, while minoring in Pre-Optometry at the University of Texas at Austin. Afterwards, she will then pursue a doctorate in Optometry. She wants to be an optometrist because of her eye doctor that she sees every year. According to Aryssa, her eye doctor always seems so happy, and as she gets older, the information she gives her about her eyes becomes more and more interesting. She can honestly see herself in the same career field.

She would like to have her own place in the long run, but right as she gets out of college, she plans to work under someone for about 10 years in order to retain as much knowledge as possible. Aryssa's senior year gave her a head start as she had the opportunity to shadow a local optometrist, and it’s everything she imagined and more.

Activities/extra-curricular

Aryssa does her best to stay active with clubs at school like being a member of HOSA, National Honor Society treasurer and a 4-year varsity swim member. She is also very involved within the community, altar serving with her team and being an ACTS team member as well as director. All of the extra activities that she does keeps her busy and helped her grow as a person. She has learned to be on time, to be dedicated, patience and understanding.

What will I miss the most after graduation?

Aryssa attended St. Elizabeth Catholic School, a private school. This school gave her a foundation and work ethic. Entering high school, she was overwhelmed by the amount of people there. Everyone was different; they had their own beliefs, habits and personalities. It was unbelievably cool to her. She was able to meet soooo many unique people and grow several strong friendships these past four years of high school. That’s what she’ll miss the most. Aryssa will miss the people she spent this chapter in her life with.
