CORPUS CHRISTI – The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) seized more than $230,000 in cash during a traffic stop in Jim Wells County.

A DPS Trooper stopped the driver of a Hyundai Elantra on U.S. Highway 281 for a traffic violation. The trooper subsequently discovered 13 bundles of U.S. currency, totaling $230,930, hidden in the right and left rear quarter panels of the vehicle.

The driver, 60-year-old Narcisco Garcia Requena of Nuevo Leon, Mexico, and passenger, 32-year-old Guillermo Adreian Acuna Gomez of Tamaulipas, Mexico,  were arrested for money laundering, which is a second degree felony.

Both men were subsequently booked into the JWC jail.
