AUSTIN - Six Duval County Peace Officers were honored at the 2018 Texas Peace Officers Memorial Ceremony held Sunday, May 6 in Austin.

One of those men was Jose Clemente Reyna. Reyna was elected as Duval County Constable Precinct 2 who passed away on Feb. 6, 1893 when he was shot and killed attempting to break up a bar fight in Benavides.

Time passed and due to advances in technology Reyna’s great-grandson, Carlos Reyna Jr. was found through Ancestrey.com. Reyna and his family were informed that the former constable’s name would be forever etched on the Texas Peace Officer Memorial Monument.

Other Duval County Officers remembered at the memorial service were Duval County Constable Precinct 1 Pedro R. Sendejo (August 1961), Duval County Deputy Sheriffs Archibald McNeill (Sept. 1900), Antonio Anguiano ( May 1912), Frank Rossi (July 1935) and Oscar Briones (Feb. 1949).
