On Thursday evening, Alice Police Department's Narcotic Unit executed a knock and announce search warrant that landed a woman behind bars.
After a lengthy investigation police ended up at an apartment complex on the 1100 block of Woodworth Street. A search of the apartment led to the discovery of 45 small bags of cocaine that totaled 29.6 grams, a little over an ounce, according to Lt. Luis Barrera.
The cocaine, which was hidden in four different locations of the apartment, was packaged and ready for distribution.
Officers arrested 29-year-old Maria Briones. This is the second raid the department has dealt with Briones on, Barrera stated.
"We feel this was a significant arrest for street level narcotics," Barrera said. Given the fact that it's across the street from a city park where kids play and people exercise. We feel it will be better for the neighborhood. Alice PD's Narcotic Unit is committed to making more arrests such as this to make the community safer."
During the time of the search a man and child were at the residence. Briones took ownership of the narcotics and was transported to the Jim Wells County jail.
Briones was charged with manufacturing and delivery of a controlled substance.
