DUVAL COUNTY - A head-on crash Friday approximately six miles west of San Diego killed a 36-year-old Corpus Christi woman.

A 1996 Chevrolet flatbed pickup truck with two occupants was traveling west on Highway 44 as a 2014 Nissan Altima passenger car also with two occupants was traveling east on Highway 44.

The driver of the Chevrolet drifted into the eastbound land of travel for unknown reasons. The driver of the Nissan attempted to take evasive action to avoid the Chevy pickup before both vehicles struck head-on, according to Sgt. Nathan Brandley with Texas Department of Public Safety.

Nora Lisa Uvalle, 36, from Corpus Christi was the passenger of the Nissan Altima. She was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

The driver of the Nissan was transport by ground ambulance to Christus Spohn Hospital in Alice with injuries. Both Driver and Passenger of the Chevrolet pickup truck were taken by grand ambulance to Christus Spohn Hospital in Alice with injuries.

It was raining heavily at the time of the crash. Troopers are further investigating the crash at this time.
