Juan Mata was arrested Friday in connection with a theft at a business on the 2700 block of East Main Street.

Mata entered the business Thursday and was able to walk out of the store with stolen property.

According to investigators, after his first theft Mata entered the business for a second time and attempted to steal a DVD combo. As he tried to leave through the businesses garden center he was confronted about the stolen property by a prevention loss officers.

Mata left the item behind, but ran out of the business and jumped into a waiting vehicle. Officers were called out to the scene. The prevention loss officer gave police the vehicle's license plate number.

The following day, police observed a vehicle driving on Front and Cameron Street. The police officer conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle. During the traffic stop Mata confessed to stealing from the business, according to police.

Mata was charged with theft over $100 under $750 and was transported to the Jim Wells County jail.

Police discovered that Mata had several municipal court warrants. According to investigators, Mata has other theft and burglary cases pending.
