A simple phone call to Jim Wells County investigators about a stolen tractor in Palito Blanco led to its recovery in a city near the Mexican border.
Lt. Alan Gonzalez was notified about a stolen John Deere Tractor from a ranch out in the Farm-to-Market 735 area. As he received information about the stolen tractor his fellow law enforcement officer happened to have information about a tractor that matched the description.
A person of interest was immediately named. Agents continued to investigation the case. During the course of the investigation, agents were called to the same ranch in Palito Blanco about a poacher.
They identified the poacher as 50-year-old Carlos Ramon Garcia. Garcia was arrested by border patrol.
Agents seized Garcia's phone and that's when they discovered Garcia's involvement in the theft, and evidence of the stolen tractor whereabouts, according to Gonzalez.
Garcia was booked into the JWC jail Monday and booked on a theft over $2,500 under $30,000 charge.
The $25,000 tractor was returned to the owner.
