Sheriff Chief Deputy Lee Ramon was placed on administrative leave without pay Monday pending the outcome of an Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), according to sources.

Jim Wells County Sheriff Daniel Bueno was recently made aware that there is an ongoing investigation involving Ramon into a situation that originated prior to his employment with the sheriff's department, according to Bueno.

Specific details about the investigation have not been released because no formal charges have been filed.

This is an ongoing investigation until the matter is resolved.

Sheriff Bueno met with Ramon before he was placed on administrative leave without pay. 

The department is fully committed to assisting investigators and will be transparent with the public once the results of the investigation are complete.

According to Sheriff Bueno, as of Tuesday, Ramon has not resigned.

Ramon is also a school board member for the Alice School District. Calls to the FBI offices in Corpus Christi and Houston have not been returned.
