While Officer John De Leon was parked on North Johnson Street Friday monitoring traffic Friday at approximately 2 a.m. his police unit was struck twice from behind.
De Leon observed a gold colored vehicle speeding down North Johnson Street. De Leon watched where the vehicle was headed when he lost sight of it. That is until the officer observed a pair of headlights in his rearview mirror.
The vehicle's driver slammed into De Leon's unit twice. De Leon got out of his unit to find Matthew Paul Soliz, 22, behind the wheel with his foot still on the accelerator and tires spinning, according to the police report.
When assisting officers arrived on scene they spoke with Soliz who admitted he had consumed three alcoholic beverages at a local bar.
A search of Soliz's vehicle led officers to discover marijuana.
Soliz was placed in handcuffs and transported to the police station for processing. His blood alcohol concentration levels were at 0.183 and 0.187, according to the police report.
The 22-year-old man was charged with aggravated assault against a public servant, driving while intoxicated and possession of marijuana.
