Hospital patient assaults nurses

On Saturday, police were dispatched to the hospital for a combative patient. Nurses told police that Norma Gonzalez became irate when they would not let her sign a "do not resuscitate" form. According to the nurses, Gonzalez was not in the right state of mind to sign such a form and when nurses told Gonzalez she began to throw punches. One of the nurses was able to block several punches, but did get a scratch on her hand. After Gonzalez received the medical attention she needed she was transported to the Jim Wells County jail. She was charged with assault on a public servant.

Marijuana arrest

Erick Jason Davila was arrested Friday for possession of marijuana on the 700 block of Gibson. Police were called to the area for a small car with a loud noise. Police found the car with Davila inside attempting to conceal an object. Officers observed a open bottle of alcohol and detected an odor of marijuana. A search of the vehicle led the officers to discover 14.5 grams. Davila was arrested and taken to the JWC jail.

Resisting arrest

While on routine patrol an Alice police officer observed a man later identified as Mark Esparza on private property on the 900 block of Ida. When the officer attempted to speak with Esparza to see if Esparza belonged on the property due to a "No Trespassing" sign, Esparza ignored the officer. The officer commanded Esparza to stop, but he continued to walk away towards the back of another residence. Esparza was eventually placed in handcuffs and taken to the JWC jail. At the jail, the correctional officer found 13.7 grams of synthetic marijuana in Esparza's jacket pocket. He was charged with resisting arrest, evading arrest and possession of a controlled substance.

School fight

Two 17-year-old girls were in at the high school on Friday when a fight broke out in front of a police officer conducting "a walk thru." The fight was broken up and the girls were taken to the office. Police and school officials watched the surveillance video that showed how the fight began. In the video, Elizabeth Gonzalez was seen attacking the victim as the victim sat down to eat. Gonzalez struck the victim in the face, grabbed her hair and pulled her to the ground. Gonzalez was arrested for assault causing bodily injury.
