A Crime Investigative Division detective with the sheriff's department is under investigation after a woman filed a report against the deputy.

Sgt. Lucas Thompson was placed on administrative leave without pay on Thursday, Dec. 28, pending an investigation.

“Detective Sergeant Lucas Thompson was placed on administrative leave without pay pending the outcome of an Alice Police Department investigation regarding allegations made by another individual against him,” Jim Wells County Sheriff Daniel Bueno said. “Our office will also be looking at the allegations and see if any policy violations were committed.”

Because of the ongoing investigation, Sheriff Bueno would not comment on the details.

“We cannot comment on it until it is investigated so that both parties involved can receive fair treatment,” he said.

According to the police blotter, the incident was reported on Dec. 22 and an Alice police officer was dispatched to 700 block of Parr Street at 4:38 p.m. The case was labeled as “official oppression and abuse of power” in the blotter.

Alice Echo-News Journal filed a Freedom of Information request on Tuesday, Dec. 26 for the police report, but city administrators have not released the information as of Thursday evening.

Thompson has been with the sheriff's department since August 2015 and was currently in the CID department. Before joining Jim Wells, he worked as a police officer with the Victoria Police Department.

“If the investigation shows that officer Thompson had wrongdoing, our office will deal with it swiftly and accordingly," Bueno said. "As Sheriff, I hold our officers and staff to a higher standard and we will take action when it becomes necessary."
