Santa Claus partnered with the Jim Wells County Sheriff’s Department to ensure senior citizens in the county were not forgotten this Holiday season.

For the first time at the sheriff's department, they decided to skip the toy drive and deliver much needed gifts to the senior citizens. The idea came straight from the sheriff who has a soft spot for seniors and quite often recalls his days with his own grandparents before their passing.

"This is not to say that the children are not important," said Sheriff Daniel Bueno. "but there are so many people helping children get Christmas gifts. What about the senior citizens who helped play a hand in our lives."

This year gifts such as blankets and socks were delivered to three nursing homes, Meridian Care of Alice, Premont Nursing Home and the Retama Manor of Alice.

When Santa walked in the doors of each facility the residents were elated. Several seniors took pictures with Santa and some cried at the idea that they were remembered.
