Dear San Diego Students, Staff and Community,

The winter season is a wonderful time of the year!! Spending time with friends and family to celebrate Christmas is always a joy and a welcomed break to gear up for the second semester.

San Diego ISD had a banner year last year, in the final words of my last newsletter I said, “I don’t want to leave anyone with the impression that this is going to be a one-time occurrence. The Vaqueros are poised and ready for future success.” And that is exactly what is continuing to occur:

The Vaqueros football team made a strong comeback making the playoffs as the second seed in our strong district. Our Lady Vaqueros Volleyball team has now made the playoffs two years in a row and they also went into the second round! Our High School Band received straight 1's and advanced in marching competition. We had multiple boys and girls reach the regional cross country meet once again! Destination Imagination (D.I.) program is now in its 6th year and has now expanded to the high school level so all 3 campuses will be representing SDISD for the first time. Basketball season is underway and both girls and boys team look to be very strong, more great news to come I'm sure... Spring sports more success to come!!! Academically:

All three campuses and the district have met state academic standards with the BJJH receiving an academic distinction in Social Studies and the HS receiving academic distinction in Post-Secondary Readiness and Student Progress. The district received a Financial First Rating of Superior in the fall of 2017. Our San Diego Early College has grown from 100 to over 160 students for the 17-18 school year. We now have a partnership or MOU with Texas A&M Kingsville for students that are TSI ready. The Safe Routes to School sidewalks are 95 percent complete the Chula Vista extension is the last part. What a joy it is to see students and community using the sidewalks. Through the TTIPS Cycle 5 2016-2020 grant the Collins Parr has expanded their prek service to our community. We are now serving 88 students as compared to 36 last year. We also have developed a state of the art STEM lab that has the elementary students excited about science like never before. We have added an Engineering course to our curriculum at the HS that is supported by the University of Texas. This is going very well with our ever-growing Robotic program. The Vaqueros are poised for future success. I pinch myself every time I think about our Early College High School. We have three cohorts and over 160 students enrolled! Next year we will be adding our fourth cohort. We are starting to see more students send their Four year College graduation announcements, definitely more than we have seen in the past.

San Diego faculty, students and parents truly believe that College is a viable option for their students and I just love being a part of it!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
