Alice High School junior Sean Chapa was named First Team All-State punter in Class 5A by the Texas Associated Press Sports Editors.

Chapa was exceptional during the regular season and it was a trend that continued into the state playoffs.

During Alice’s 10 regular season games, Chapa had 47 punts with an average of 43.84. He had a better average in the playoffs and had two punts or more than 60 yards.

Alice coach Kyle Atwood said he is certain that Chapa was not only the best punter in Class 5A. He was likely the top punter in the entire state.

“Stats are stats and Sean has some great stats this season, but I don’t think there was a better athlete lining up back there at punter,” Atwood said. “He can obviously punt it. He can place the ball, he can rugby-style punt it, and he runs a 4.5 so he can run it or run anyone down if he has to.”

Also on the all-state team is Alice senior Marc Garcia. Garcia made the team as a linebacker and was an honorable mention. Garcia was the captain of the Coyote defense and team's leading tackler.
