DUVAL COUNTY - Freer and San Diego ISD's recently received grants from the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) with a combined total of $396,177.

"(The Jobs and Education for Texans grant) really highlights the importance of equipment and how its going to be used and how its going to change the future of so many bright students that are going to have these wonderful opportunities not to mention the patients that will be in their care," said TWC Commissioner Ruth Ruggero Hughes.

The districts are two of approximately 90 school districts who applied for the JET grants. The two districts are part of eight Coastal Bend districts who were awarded.

SDISD was awarded $50,346 JET grant that will help the school district purchase and install equipment to provide 100 students with training for careers in the nursing profession.

Freer ISD received a $345,831 JET grant. The grant will help the school district purchase and install equipment to provide 76 students with training for careers in the nursing profession.

The purchased equipment will continue to support the nursing program and future students enrolled with Freer ISD.
