A synthetic marijuana seminar was held Thursday for local law enforcement officers. Jim Wells County Attorney Michael Guerra shared updates on laws that pertain to synthetic marijuana.
Law enforcement officers from Jim Wells County Sheriff's Office and the San Diego Police Department listened as Guerra explained how the Department of Public Safety lab has changed procedures on how testing gets done as well as the price for each sample sent into the lab.
Each drug sample costs $750 to test, according to Guerra.
Guerra also expressed how important the chain of custody paperwork is for all synthetic cases when the county attorney's office prepares for a trial.
Synthetic marijuana's formula is always changing. According to Guerra, the law states that synthetic marijuana is any substance that mimics cannabis.
