She is preceded in death by her husband, Anselmo Rivera, Sr., parents Juan and Paula Contreras, daughter Estella Rivera Sanchez, sons Ricardo and Oscar Rivera, grandson Robert Rivera, sisters Dominga Alaniz, Herlinda Rivera, and brother Catarino Contreras, Sr.
Flavia Rivera, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, tia, and friend grew up and lived in Orange Grove all throughout her life. She was a respected member of Saint John of the Cross Catholic Church, attending mass faithfully each Sunday. During her earlier, more active life, Flavia served her God faithfully by serving as a Eucharistic Minister, being a member of the Altar Society, and a founding member of the Guadalupanas Catholic organization. Flavia enjoyed spending time doting on her family, always attending to their needs before her own. She was constantly surrounded by the love of her family and was blessed to have the companionship of her beloved sons, Paul Rivera and Daniel Rivera. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, going to church, reading, listening to music, and caring for her plants. Above all, Flavia was a very spiritual soul and devoted Christian. Her greatest love was that for Jesus her Savior and the Blessed Mary Mother of God. She spent every day reading Holy Scripture and in prayer. Her greatest wish in life was to pass that faith to her children and for the safety, health, and contentment of her family and her many friends.
Flavia married Anselmo in 1945, upon his return from WWII. Together they raised a family of twelve children, six sons and six daughters. Flavia will forever be remembered for her goodness and gentleness of heart, the great love she had for God and neighbor, and the great humility with which she lived her entire life.
She is survived by her children: Daniel Rivera, Olga Saenz (Mike), Elma Lamb (Luis), Anselmo Rivera, Jr., David Rivera (Norma), Cynthia Rivera, Belinda Sanchez (Alfredo), Mickey Salinas (Danny), Paul Rivera.; 50 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren, and several great, great grandchildren.
