Palito Blanco – Four malnourished horses were rescued Thursday by Jim Wells County deputies after a report about the neglected animals was made.

When deputies arrived on the property on the 5000 block of County Road 440 they found one of the horses laying on the ground to weak to stand. According to Livestock Investigator Aubrey Harper with the JWC Sheriff's Office, the horse had to be euthanized after the veterinarian's recommendation.

The other three horses were removed from the property and sent to a rescue center in Burlington, Texas.

According to sheriff officials, the owner of the horses has medical issues and was unable to care for the horses. However, Harper made contact with the person who was responsible for the horses' care, but no arrest was made at this time.

The investigation is ongoing. No arrests have been made at this time.
