Suspicious fire

Alice police and fire department are investigating a fire at a vacant home on the 500 block of Hobbs Street that occurred Monday night. When first responders arrived they found the home fully engulfed. The fire was put out. The property owner told police that she does not know how the home has caught fire for the second time this month. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 361-664-0981.


Three men, Phillip Aaron Garza, Phillip F. Garza and Gilbert Ballesteros, were arrested for disorderly conduct fighting on the 2700 block of East Main Street. According to the report, an officer observed a blue car cutoff a Dodge Durango. When the officer turned his vehicle around he observed the three men fighting. The men were transported to the Jim Wells County jail.

Traffic stop

On Thursday, Sgt. Juan Martinez conducted a traffic stop on the 300 block of North Texas Boulevard. He made contact with Jose Martinez and Jessica Ann Trevino Gamez. A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of a marijuana cigarette. The couple was transported to the Alice Police Department. When an assisting officer cleared his patrol unit he located a package of synthetic marijuana in the back seat. The couple was charged with possession of marijuana and possession of a controlled substance.


A woman called police Saturday after she found stolen property in her home. According to the woman, the property belonged to a local school district. During the investigation, police determined that Sean Davis and Sergio Espinoza had stolen the property; five softball shirts, a baseball cap, nine cans of chili and seven bags of chips. Davis and Espinoza were charged with burglary of a building and transported to the JWC jail.
