San Diego - A City of San Diego employee retired Octavio Chavez Jr. Wednesday after 40 plus years.
"I've been on the (city council) for over 20 years and I've had the opportunity of working with this great man," said Councilwoman Janie Lopez. "So I want to thank him from the city, from the citizens of San Diego for his hard work and dedication to the city of San Diego. This man never took vacation or sick leave for years."
Chavez accepted a certificate of appreciation from Lopez with a simple "Thank you."
Chavez's family thanked the mayor and city council for acknowledging the years of service Chavez had put into the city.
