Jim Wells County was recognized at the Commissioner's Court Monday and presented with 2016 Gold Star Safety Award.

Out of more than 200 Texas counties, only 14 earned the award reserved for counties with the highest degree of safety commitment and success. The award is presented by the Texas Association of Counties Risk Management Pool.

The county is one of about 300 governmental entities that participate in the TAC RMP. The pool awards the prestigious Gold Star Safety Award to only those members that have proactive measures to implement policies and procedures for effective risk management.

TAC Risk Control consultants evaluate county safety programs and work with counties to develop safety initiatives.

During the selection process for the 2016 Safety Awards, the following criteria are considered:

Implementation of Safety award criteria

Improvement in the basic Safety Award criteria

Activity and success of the program in the 2016 calendar year

Support for the program by upper management
