A business owner was arrested Tuesday at her business on the 500 block of E. Front in connection with theft of service.

According to Jim Wells County sheriff's report, April Denise Rodriguez, 29, was arrested for a warrant out of Victoria, Texas.

The charge was for a theft of service by check ranging from $500 to $1,500.

The sheriff's office is also investigating allegations of identity theft for about eight credit accounts using an employee's name.

Some of the accounts include American Express, Capital One, Clarity Services Inc., One Main and Marlette Funding, report stated. An application for $10,000 loan from Geneva Capital LLC was also filed. The loan application was submitted with an employee's name, but the contact information was Rodriguez, report stated.

Charges are pending on those fraudulent activities.

The sheriff's office is handling the investigation because of possible conflict of interest, since Rodriguez is related to an Alice police officer.
