Karen Beth Cox Moreland passed away peacefully on Friday, June 2, 2017, surrounded by family. She was born on February 12, 1944 in Alice, Texas to Morris and Betty Cox.

Karen was a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend to many. She worked for Baker-Hughes for many years and retired in 2006. She was an avid fisherman and loved spending time on the beach. When she wasn’t fishing, she was collecting shells. Karen also enjoyed skeet shooting and taught many youth in Alice including the 4-H team from 1978 to1981. And Karen had a love for animals – she never met a stray she couldn’t love.

Karen is survived by her daughter, Karen (Charles) Krause of Corpus Christi, her step-sons, Richard K. (Darlene) Moreland of Alice and John (Lorrie) Moreland of Laredo; her grandchildren, Felicia (Raymond) Goodman-Chaney of Beeville, Jeff (Cherise) Thompson of Houston, Taylor (W. T. Dyson) Thompson of Dallas, Austin Moreland of Alice, Melissa Krause of Austin, Charles (Christina) Krause of Corpus Christi, and James (Victoria) Goodman of Alice; six great-grandchildren whom she adored, Lilly, Jayden, Caleigh, Penelope, Lucille, and Hudson; two brothers, Morris D. Cox, Jr. of Orange Grove, and Richard (Maryanne) Cox of Bastrop; numerous nieces and nephews; the father of her children, Phil Whitman, and her beloved dog, Prissy.
