A canvassing by the Alice City Council Thursday evening made the results from the Place 2 recount official.

According to the recount summary provided by the Jim Wells County Election Administrator Maria Antonia (Tonie) Kuhlman, Elida Garza remained the top vote-getter for Place 2 on the Alice City Council.

Garza beat incumbent Pete Beltran and political newcomer Michael Wohl to win Place 2 on the Alice City Council in May. Garza was again the top vote-getter following the two-day recount process on May 23rd and 24th.

One vote was removed from Garza's tally during the recount, leaving her with 811 votes to Beltran's 802. Wohl had 520.

According to the report, Garza had 80 absentee votes, 413 early votes and 318 election day votes. Beltran had 27 absentee votes, 461 early votes and 314 election day votes. Wohl had 12 absentee votes, 309 early votes and 199 election day votes.

The council was presented with a detailed report showing the vote tallies by voting precinct and an overall summary.

The results were announced last week, but became official Thursday night after the canvassing.

After reviewing the results, council member Pete Crisp made a motion that the council accept the totals. Council member Cynthia Carrasco seconded the motion and it was unanimously accepted.
