Samantha Espinoza

Parents: Gerardo Espinoza and Christine Espinoza

Educational or Future Plans: My future plans are to receive a Bachelor Of Science in Nursing from Texas A&M University and continue on to become a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner or a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner.

Clubs and Officer Positions: 4 year Honor Band member, Drumline Section Leader for the Alice High School Marching Band, National Honor Society member, Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) member, and Corpus Christi Wind Symphony performer.

Accomplishments/Honors: I am a four year member of the Alice High School Marching Band which qualified for State in 2014. I am also a four year member of the Alice High School Concert Band which was invited to perform at Carnegie Hall in New York City also in 2014. Also, I was a District History Fair Qualifier in 2016. I am CPR certified through the American Heart Association, and I have been certified as a Nursing Assistant as well this past year. I am also ranked in the top 10% of my class, ranked at number 26. Lastly, during the summer of 2016, I attended a System Blue Camp for drumline and received an award for Most Outstanding Performer.

The best advice I have been told is not to grow up too fast. This saying has been used amongst many people because it is a very important piece of advice. This advice has helped me enjoy more of my time as a teenager before I become an adult and go out into the world on my own.

In 5 years, I see myself graduated from TAMUCC with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and continuing on my education towards becoming a Nurse Practitioner.

If I could change anything about this world, I would change there not being a cure for cancer. Being that a close family member of mine passed recently from cancer, I know firsthand how the disease affects families and friends. Being able to cure cancer would save a tremendous amount of people and it will provide more valuable time to spend with their loved ones.

If I could invite three people to dinner, they would be Scott Johnson, Brandon Olander, and Matthew Sanders, also known as M. Shadows. I would invite Blue Devils Percussion Director Scott Johnson because the Blue Devils Drumline and Percussion are an amazing group of musicians and performers. Scott Johnson is an incredibly talented player, leader, and teacher. To be able to learn and be taught by him would be a once in a lifetime experience that will be remembered for the rest of my life. I would also invite Brandon Olander because he joined the Blue Devils when he was 16 years old. A few years before, he had the opportunity to play alongside them when he was only 12 years old which was how he became known. I would want to know how he was able to achieve so much in such little time, what inspired him to try out for the blue devils, and what intrigued him to pick up a pair of drumsticks. Lastly, I would invite Matthew Sanders, also known as M. Shadows, because he is the lead singer of the band “Avenged Sevenfold.” He is a very talented singer and musician who one day wanted to start a band with his close friends. I would want him to talk about his journey and his experience of starting so young to becoming known all around the world.
