Orange Grove - Law Enforcement Officers arrested 30-year-old Leroy Ortiz on Tuesday, May 16 for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon warrant and a violation of a protective order warrant.

Officers from the Jim Wells County and Duval County Sheriff's Office, Alice Police Department and the US Customs and Border Protection Aviation Division executed a search and arrest warrant at Ortiz's residence on the 300 block of County Road 306-1 in Orange Grove.

Ortiz is a confirmed member of the prison gang TANGO BLAST, the biggest prison gang in Texas right now, according to Lt. Alan Gonzalez with the JWC Sheriff's Office.

According to JWC Sheriff Daniel Bueno, Ortiz threaten the residents in his community and the residents didn't want to file charges due to a fear of retaliation.

“We can't have families living in fear because of persons like this,” he said. “It will not be tolerated. We encourage other citizens who have been victims of this individuals violent attack to step forward. .. victims don't stay quiet; we will take action.”

Ortiz was booked into the JWC jail. As of Thursday, he remained in custody with a total bond of $110,000.
