Alice Police Officer, Lt. Hector Zertuche Jr., was named Law Enforcement Officer of the Year at the annual appreciation dinner Tuesday.

Zertuche was selected from several applicants, who have to be nominated through their agency. He has a total of 27 years as uniform patrol and worked himself up the ladder as an officer, corporal, sergeant and now lieutenant.

Besides earning his peace officers license, he had advance and master's license along with field training supervisor, training advisory committee member, advanced traffic accident investigator and background investigator.

Zertuche is a graduate of Alice High School Class of 1986 and graduate of Del Mar College 1989 with associate's degree in Criminal Justice.

He is a member of Texas Municipal League, Recognized Agency with Alice Police Department, CLEAT, Alice Police Officers Association and treasurer and of the Youth Football Association.

Law Enforcement Scholarships were also awarded to high school seniors affiliated with law enforcement. Ryley Priddy and Aaren Perez were awarded scholarships. Both have numerous academic and extra-curricular achievements.
