Four Dubose Intermediate students participated in the Texas History Fair recently. Two students earned the Hispanic Heritage Award.
Cousins Aliana and Grabiel Silva were awarded for their research project on Francisco Arellano and his part in the Battle of Medina.
The Silva's made a website that explained in detail how violent the Battle of Medina as soldiers fought for their independence from Spain.
“The entire process was a learning experience. We learned that taking a stand can be difficult, but sometimes you have to just be committed to what you believe in,” Aliana stated.
Deandra Ybarra and Alyssa Lopez didn't receive an award. However, they feel they took self-confidence and knowledge that no one can take away. Ybarra and Lopez made a documentary on Mother Teresa of Calcutta.
“Being our age we tend to forget about others. We enjoyed researching Mother Teresa and learning how she always put others before herself,” Ybarra said. “Something we all should try to do.”
The sixth grade students look forward to next year's event.
