FALFURRIAS – U.S. Border Patrol agents found 14 people hiding inside a grain hauler at the Falfurrias Checkpoint early Monday morning.
The discovery was made when the vehicle was referred for secondary inspection following a canine alert. Rather than pull into secondary as directed, the driver, a United States citizen, continued driving north in an attempt to avoid the inspection. The tractor trailer eventually stopped and the driver was taken into custody. Agents found 14 immigrants sitting at the bottom of the hauler, covered by a tarp. The undocumented immigrants were offered medical attention, to which they declined.
The driver was arrested and referred for prosecution. The immigrants will be processed accordingly.
RGV Sector urges immigrants not to jeopardize their lives by trusting smugglers, illegally entering the United States or attempting to circumvent a checkpoint.
