SAN DIEGO - A 30-year-old San Diego man is in the Intensive Care Unit at a Corpus Christi Hospital from a stabbing incident over the weekend.
San Diego police were dispatched to a bar on the 100 block of South Victoria Sunday morning. Officer Wilfredo Cantu arrived at the scene and found, Daniel Chapa Jr. bleeding profusely, according to San Diego Police Chief Richard Nava.
Chapa was immediately sent to CHRISTUS Spohn Alice who stabilized him before he was flown to a CC Hospital via Halo Flight.
According to Nava, witnesses stated that ex-girlfriend, Yvonne Trevino, 24, stabbed Chapa when he exited the bar at approximately 2:48 a.m.
Chapa was stabbed three times in the mid-torso, back and right side.
Trevino left the scene, but was arrested at an apartment complex on Dr. EE Dunlap for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. She was transported to the Duval County jail.
Nava recently visited with Chapa and his Corpus Christi doctor. According to Nava, the doctor said Chapa's lung was punctured and caused it to fill with blood.
Police continue to interview witnesses about the incident and are waiting for preliminary reports from the doctor.
The knife used in the stabbing has not been located, Nava said.
The case will be forwarded to the District Attorney's Office in Duval County.
As of Monday, May 1, Trevino had been released from custody.
