Austin, TX - In an awesome display of regional leadership, the Cities of Freer and San Diego joined forces last week at the first ever Freer and San Diego Capitol Days.

City leadership representing both cities worked with EMC Strategy Group, LLC to present their respective legislative priorities to the State Legislature on March 7 and 8. Both cities have very similar priorities, which include: infrastructure (streets and drainage), business & economic development, public safety and quality of life. Each city had a delegation of three representatives and led by their mayors.

Freer Delegation – Mayor Arnold Cantu, Municipal Judge Rachel De Los Santos and City Manager Ana Garcia

San Diego Delegation – Mayor Sally Lichtenberger, Mayor Pro-tem Shelly Gaitan and City Director Aleida Luera

“It’s a great demonstration of leadership that Mayors Lichtenberger and Cantu are thinking of growing regionally and setting aside lines on a map,” said Texas Workforce Commissioner on Labor Julian Alvarez.

Freer Mayor Arnold Cantu and San Diego Mayor Sally Lichtenberger have a great working relationship and agreed to team up for this advocacy trip to the State Capitol.

“I am extremely pleased that Mayor Cantu and I shared our community needs to key members of the Texas House of Representatives and the Texas Senate, I think that we started a great conversation with our legislators,” Mayor Lichtenberger stated.

Cities and Counties have been working aggressively since the start of the 85th Legislative Session to push forward their political and legislative priorities. The session began on January 10, 2017 and EMC Strategy Group has been representing both cities in Austin since day one.

“I’m glad that Freer and San Diego are making our priorities known to our state officials,” Mayor Cantu said. “Senators Judith Zaffirini and State Representative Ryan Guillen gave us a great welcoming to the Capitol and we know that we can count on their support for our local projects.

Both cities and their delegations were recognized in the chambers of the House of Representatives and the Senate by Senator Judith Zaffirini and State Representative Ryan Guillen.

EMC Strategy Group organized the two-day trip, which included a legislative day briefing and meeting with twelve legislative offices and the Texas Workforce Commissioner on Labor Julian Alvarez. The delegation met with the chairmen and vice-chairs of the committees on: Business and Industry, Calendars, Small Business, Homeland Security and Public Safety, Finance and Ways and Means.

“We are very proud of Mayor Arnold Cantu and Mayor Sally Lichtenberger for their exceptional leadership,” said EMC Owner and Founder Janice M. Gonzalez. “They are the real deal and connected extremely well with our political leaders on both sides of the isle (democrats and republicans) and we are going to continue our hard work for San Diego and Freer.
