Jim Wells County deputies made contact with Christopher Gonzalez and Samantha Tamez during a traffic stop Thursday morning on Third and King Street.
As deputies spoke with Gonzalez they believed he was under the influence of alcohol and received consent to search the vehicle.
During the search deputies located a backpack with scales and 10.5 ounces of marijuana, according to sheriff deputies.
Gonzalez was arrested and taken to the JWC jail. He was charged with possession of marijuana.
Deputies escorted Tamez to the couple’s residence on the 500 block of Presnall Street that is directly across a public school.
Deputies later contacted the Alice Police Department Narcotics Division when they discovered a scale in Gonzalez’s backpack was covered in cocaine residue, sheriff officials stated.
Agents from the two departments went to the couple’s home. When Tamez answered the door agents asked to search the home due to the evidence in the backpack.
Inside the residence, agents discovered a bag of cocaine, five grams, inside a bedroom, according to Alice police.
Tamez was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance in a drug free zone. She was booked into the JWC jail.
