For about 40 years, Ruben Rivera has come into many living rooms and homes over the radio since the age of 13.
Born and raised in Alice all his life, he started his professional career with the late Ruben Naranjo as a vocalist.
Fast forward 40 years and he is now going strong solo with his own band named Ruben Rivera. Rivera is having a CD release party and dance on Feb. 4, Saturday at Desperados. New CD is titled Cuatro Caminos.
"We are doing really well in Monterrey, San Antonio, Corpus Christi, The Valley, Laredo and Victoria," Rivera said.
Members of his band include Joey Farias, Bajo Sexto and vocalist; Rey Garcia, Accordion; Mark Garcia, Bass; Robert Perez, Drums.
Rivera said his style of music is Conjunto Original.
The CD release party will be recorded live for YouTube. CDs and t-shirts will be on sale at the get-together.
Rivera also sang with Chano Cadena and started his own band with Los Nobles in 1982 up until 2004.
Tickets at the door are $10 before 10 p.m. and $12 after 10 p.m. The doors open at 8 p.m. Music begins at 10 p.m. to 2 a.m.
Rivera invites all of Alice residents and surrounding areas to his CD release party.
Rivera attributes his mother for his career for always having music playing in the house.
"My mom always had the radio on with Mando Pena," he said.
