Six men were arrested over the last week as officers from several agencies banded together to crack down on the sell and use of narcotics in the area.

Agencies assisting in the raids were Jim Wells and Duval County Sheriff's Office, Alice Police Department, and the Central South Texas Criminal Investigative Unit.

Traffic Stop leads to Raid

Friday, Jan. 27 deputies with the JWC Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop on the 500 block of South Park Street. Deputies made contact with three occupants Domingo Benavides, Edward John Bernal and Jonathon Andrew Lopez. During a search of the vehicle the deputies located 13 grams of synthetic marijuana.

The men were arrested and taken to the sheriff's department. They were charged with possession of a controlled substance.

Further investigation by deputies led to a narcotics search warrant being generated and executed at a residence on the 900 block of Cactus Street. During the search José Luis Johnson was arrested and deputies seized 37 grams of synthetic marijuana.

Johnson was charged with manufacture and delivery of a controlled substance. The four men were booked into the JWC jail.

Elvira Street Raid

Rene Adam Villagran was arrested Thursday at a residence on the 1500 block of Elvira Street after deputies executed a narcotic warrant. During the raid officers located an undisclosed amount of synthetic marijuana and marijuana inside the home. When Villagran observed the officers he fled on foot.

According to JWC Lt. Alan Gonzalez, as Villagran ran he threw narcotics into the air; the deputies were unable to recover the narcotics as they mixed with the dirt.

Villagran was arrested for possession of marijuana, possession of a controlled substance and tampering with physical evidence. He was taken to the JWC jail.

One arrest at Palo Blanco Raid

Alice police conducted a raid at a home on the 200 block of Palo Blanco Tuesday, Jan. 24 which led to the arrest of Terence Mann. When officers arrived at the residence they located Mann in the back of the residence sitting in a truck in close proximity to marijuana and rolling papers.

Officers detained Mann and found a bag of cocaine and a bag of marijuana in the pocket of his pants. Inside the residence officers located a digital scale. He had a total of 1.7 grams of marijuana and 0.4 grams of cocaine.

Mann was taken to the JWC jail and charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana.
