Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) hosted a public workshop Tuesday to gather information from the public regarding the federal funding for the local 5310 Enhanced Mobility of Seniors and Individuals with Disabilities program.
At the Alice TxDOT site attendees discussed what issues they had with funding and the overview of the 5310 program affected local residents.
CASA Real officials were at the workshop to understand the process better and what changes were coming with the new year.
CASA Real serves nine counties in Coastal Bend. They have a fleet of 79 units to transport their clients.
According to Martin Ornelas with CASA Real transportation, 60 percent of there riders are senior citizens and individuals with disabilities. As of last year ridership was just under 300,000.
The workshop highlighted who is eligible for funding through the program. A major issue in the Coastal Bend area is how to better serve the residents of the rural ans small urban areas.
